Antioxidants

Antioxidants are free radical scavengers. They act by inhibiting oxidation which is a chemical reaction involving electron transfer. Antioxidants are often electron donors that stabilize the "radicals" that would otherwise set off a chain reaction that results in damage or death to cells. Many degenerative diseases result from oxidative stress. Certain bioflavonoids are main source of antioxidants.

This herb has a multitude of uses but to understand how research of prized Indian herbs is conducted, it is useful to consider how well an herb protects the patient from damaging changes when exposed to chemical, metallic, or radioactive hazards and how successfully the herb protects against free radicals.
